STAR METRICS (Science and Technology in America’s Reinvestment – Measuring the EffecT of Research on Innovation, Competitiveness and Science) is a federal and university partnership which is developing an empirical framework to measure the outcomes of science investments and demonstrate the benefits of scientific investments to the public. The project is led by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the auspices of Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
“To capture the essence of good science, stakeholders must combine forces to create an open, sound and consistent system for measuring all the activities that make up academic productivity.” Julia Lane, Director of the Science of Science Innovation Program.
