When do Authors Need to Comply With the Revised NIH Public Access Policy?

January 23rd, 2008 by Cathy · No Comments

NIH recently released new guidelines related to the revised NIH Public Access Policy. According to the NIH FAQs the revised NIH policy applies if your peer-reviewed article is based on work in one or more of the following categories:

1.  Directly funded by an NIH grant or cooperative agreement active in Fiscal Year 2008 (October 1, 2007- September 30, 2008) or beyond;
2.  Directly funded by a contract signed on or after April 7, 2008;
3.  Directly funded by the NIH Intramural Program.
4.  If NIH pays your salary.

Authors in any of these categories are requested to comply if their article has been accepted for publication on or after April 07, 2008. (NIH Notice–Revised Policy on Enhancing Public Access to Archived Publications Resulting from NIH-Funded Research)

The majority of WU NIH-funded authors fall under categories 1 and 2. Not sure if you need to comply? Check the “When do NIH-Funded Authors Need to Comply?” chart for more information.  The chart is based on type of funding mechanism/fiscal year and date of acceptance of the article by the publisher.
