Taylor and Francis Announces Extended Coverage of “iOpenAccess” Journals

October 5th, 2007 by Cathy · No Comments

Taylor & Francis recently announced that their “iOpenAccess” option has been extended to cover 31 journals in environmental and agricultural sciences, behavioral sciences and development studies. This is in addition to the 175 journals from T&F’s Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics portfolios, seven behavioral science journals from Psychology Press, and medical and bioscience journals from Informa Healthcare.  Authors whose manuscripts are accepted for publication in ”iOpen Access” journals will have the option to make their work available without restrictions for a one time fee of $3,100.  Taylor and Francis will also deposit NIH funded manuscripts to PubMed Central on behalf of the author. http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/authors_journals_iopenaccess_about~db=all

Some grant funding agencies will allow for funding support of article processing fees for authors who desire particpate in this “hybrid model” option. The hybrid model refers to the practice of bundling open access articles with non-open access articles in the same journal issue. Other publishers that offer similar options are Oxford, Springer, and Karger to name a few. Open access refers to journals in which all articles are publicly available without restrictions, with the author retaining the rights to their work. Examples of open access journals are BioMed Central or PLos.

To view a list of funding agencies that provide funding support for fees for hybrid or open access models of publishing,  please refer to the BioMed Central Summary of Funding Agency Policies on Open Access.
