Dear EMBASE.com customer,
The EMBASE team is delighted to announce a major EMBASE.com release, scheduled for Saturday June 27th. This release, which is the result of an ongoing major investment program in the product, will introduce significant improvements to both content and search options within EMBASE.com (see the Release Fact Sheet, June 2009). Underlying is the transition to a new search engine which will enable many more improvements in the months ahead.

Key customer benefits available in June

Identify the most relevant search terms via the new Autocomplete feature on Quick Search
Search syntax extended to include both NEAR and NEXT operators
Clutter-free preview of Abstract and Index terms on the Results page and Clipboard
Content extended to include MEDLINE years 1950-1965
Allows identification of EMBASE-unique records as well as MEDLINE unique records

Phased releases

The June release represents a major milestone for EMBASE.com, and will be followed by releases in the Autumn and following months, which will incorporate new features discussed and planned in collaboration with key customers.

Our goal is to ensure that new features, based on your input, will be incorporated into future releases of EMBASE.com as quickly as possible. The EMBASE team will be attending major exhibitions during the Summer, where you will have the opportunity to preview future functionality and give us your feedback.

Customer impact and support of the June 27^th release

EMBASE.com will be transitioned to the new platform from Friday 26th June (9:00 GMT) until Saturday 27th June (17:00 GMT)
During this transition period you will be able to search the old platform as usual
All new alerts, clipboards and saved searches created during the transition period will be converted to the new platform (though they may not become visible until Monday 29th June)
Any updates or deletions to existing email alerts, clipboard or saved searches during the transition period will not be transferred to the new platform
To support this transition, we are making available a special support mailbox (embaserelease@elsevier.com), which will also be accessible via a link on the new EMBASE.com home page. If you experience any difficulty at all with the new platform (e.g. with email alerts or saved searches), don’t hesitate to contact us.

We hope you will enjoy the benefits of the new EMBASE.com platform as we continue to develop it to meet your needs. For further product updates, news and activities, please check the Info site and the EMBASE.com forum.

Produced by the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), Inspec is the leading English-language bibliographic information service providing access to the world’s scientific and technical literature in the following fields:

Manufacturing

Coverage is from 1898 to the present.

Includes over 10 million bibliographic records from nearly 4,000 journals, 2,000 conference proceedings, and books and dissertations.

All Inspec data is supplemented by special subject indexing that aids retrieval and provides valuable subject information about indexed documents.

Journal Citation Reports 2008

Journal Citation Reports recently released data for 2008. New metrics and features include:

5-Year Journal Impact Factor is the average number of times articles from a journal published in the past five years have been cited in the JCR year. For journals in subjects where citation activity continues to rise through several years, this metric allows more of their total citation activity to be included in a critical performance metric.
Eigenfactor^TM Metrics, comprising the Eigenfactor^TM Score and Article Influence^TM Score, use JCR citation data to assess the influence of a journal in relation to other journals. These metrics, based on five years of citation activity, consider not just the count of citations but the structure of the citation network. Eigenfactor Metrics are available only for JCR years 2007 and later.
Journal Self Cites provides analyses of journal self citations and their contribution to the Journal Impact Factor calculation.
Rank-in-Category reveals the ranking of a journal in its subject categories based on the Journal Impact Factor. An accompanying Impact Factor box plot depicts the distribution of Impact Factors for all journals in a category.

Two new e-books in MD Consult

Our MD Consult subscription now includes two new or updated electronic books:

Haddad and Winchester’s Clinical Management of Poisoning and Drug Overdose, 4th edition
Walsh’s Palliative Medicine, 1st edition

All MD Consult electronic books are available by going to MD Consult in the Becker Library Quick Links menu at the top left of the Becker Library home page, and clicking on the Books tab at the top left.

Reminder: searching within MD Consult

When initiating a search in sections of MD Consult, the content searched is only from that section.

For instance, searching in a specific book automatically sets the search box at the top of MD Consult to “This Book.”

The choices for searching from within MD Consult are now highlighted in yellow in the drop-down menu at the top of every MD Consult page.

Updates for BMJ Clinical Evidence

SCOPUS Title List

As noted in Science/Connect, March/April 2009:

A new title list was uploaded to the Scopus Info site in January. The number of titles has decreased but this is due to the fact that titles having had no new content added during the past three years are moved from “active” to “inactive” at the start of each year. A similar drop in active titles was experienced in previous years.

In response to a customer request for a comprehensive list of Conference Proceedings covered in Scopus, a new tab – “Further Conference Proceedings” – has been included on the title list. This tab includes over 6,000 Conference Proceedings. It also includes the Conference Proceedings on the regular title list. These Conference Proceedings have not been part of the regular title list until now because they do not have ISSN’s. The new “Further Conference Proceedings” tab includes all these additional Conference Proceedings and will, together with the regular title lists, be updated every quarter.
