Countway Library of Medicine at Harvard and the Engineering and Science Libraries at MIT have a fantastic new resource: the BioInformatics Tutorials Series (BITS). These tutorials are clear, easy to understand, and best of all, they allow just-in-time instruction on practical bioinformatics applications and tools.
These video tutorials highlight bioinformatics resources such as NCBI Entrez, BLAST, and the UCSC Genome Browser and focus on specific activities for conducting genomic research. BITS can be viewed at a user’s own pace and own convenience.
BITS currently covers the UCSC Genome Browser and NCBI BLAST. The UCSC Genome Browser options include instruction on how to retrieve DNA sequence, display and configure the annotation tracks, identify gene intron-exon boundaries, and use the BLAT tool. The NCBI BLAST instructional options include the BLAST Link, an introduction to BLAST, and two tutorials on nucleotide BLAST.
